Sea Colour Bird

One from my first batches of birds that went for sale. Dated back to the beginning of 2022 shows my first attempts to create a character by playing with bird’s eyebrow expression.

From the very first bird, I began to experiment with creating a pattern on a bird’s body. I used a simple everyday use tool and just pressed them on clay to create deeper spots where the glaze could run.

I used barium-based glazes in blue and green colour. By varying the clay structure, I got different thicknesses of glaze with the result of a range of shades.

Its feet and beak are made out of stained porcelain. I used Manson stains. Later I moved away from using this stain as I found it too pale.
